Junk removal companies in Vancouver

After years of gathering junk in your house it is time to get rid of it and naturally you google for a list of junk removal companies in Vancouver. The search engine returns a pretty good list of local rubbish removal businesses but which one do you choose??? This article is intended to help you in making the right decision.

In most cases search engines will return a pretty good list of junk removal companies operating in the Vancouver area. However, they will not be ranked based on how good their services are or how affordable they are. This you have to do yourself. I am hoping I can assist you in doing this well enough so you can get your garbage picked up the right way and also save some money in the process.

The first rule you should learn about is that waste management companies are like apples and bananas. Depending on what you need, they can’t always be compared. I will try to categorize them as clearly as possible. The differences between those trash disposal companies are not as clear to people outside the industry as to individuals like me who have been in this business for some time.

Big Junk Removal Companies

You have seen them all over Vancouver, BC. They are usually associated with 1800 JUNK names and have cute trucks. They try not to look like dump trucks but the fact remains that they are hauling rubbish. In most cases you will get a very good service but their junk removal prices can be high. Also, they could get tricky with their estimations. Clients have complained of shady practices in that area. For example they will quote you a price and after they load it, you will be presented with an additional disposal fee. Once in a while there will be some garbage items which carry extra fees and the company representative may not see it because it is at the bottom of the pile. Once they start hauling the rubbish, they will discover it and it is fair to add that additional charge. However, my clients bad experience with hidden fees has not been one of those case. Therefore, treat the verbal agreement on removal fees as a contract. Ask the right questions so there are no surprises. Large rubbish removal companies are also good for cases when there needs to be extra care in the way the rubbish is hauled away. For example dealing with a case of hoarders is a slow and difficult process and most small companies will not have the training to deal with it. Often, almost every item has to be negotiated with the hoarder and this takes time and labour can be expensive in those instances. Again, the rates in those cases will be high but I would recommend calling one of the 1800 JUNK companies if you are dealing with sensitive situation of this sort.

Average Junk Removal Companies

This type of waste management companies in the Vancouver area are the best choice for most clients. They are usually small companies having anywhere between 1-3 dump trucks and they can provide a very good junk hauling services for you. Their prices are competitive and they can take care of 99% of the jobs. However, this is the area where you have to use your judgement the most. You best indicator for good service is to listen to how you are treated on the phone. If they are rude to you or shady with their pricing, I don’t think you will get a good service once they are on your property. Their prices will be lower than the 1800 Junk companies since they don’t have call centers and other franchise expenses. Their trucks are not as attractive as the big companies but they are perfectly good for rubbish hauling.

Pickup junk removal companies

This is the interesting part if you like to take a risk. There are couple of guys with pickups that I see at the North Shore Transfer Station every day and they seem like very professional and dedicated. However, those are the exception. Most companies of this sort are just some guy with a pickup making some cash on the weekend. They will be late if they even decide to show up. They will be very cheap but I am hearing stories of peoples’ properties being cased for what can be stolen later.  For me this is too much of a risk since you are letting this guys in your house. Also, since they are scraping the bottom for clients, they would do any job. That means they do bed bugs pickups. The trucks are infested with bedbugs and you have to think twice before you let one of those guys spreading eggs around your house. Their trucks are small and they can only assist you in removing your couch or smaller amount of rubbish. If you have more than few couches, they will have to do multiple trips to the dump and that will cost you more money than if you just hire a regular junk disposal company. But they can assist you in some cases. If for example you have your couch outside your house, they can just come and pick it up for cheap and the above mentioned issues will not be a problem.

Junk removal prices

Make sure when you are comparing junk removal prices, you are comparing the total cost of junk removal. For example, some junk disposal companies will post on their site rates without including dumping fees. My personal opinion is that this is a bit of a shady practice. The junk removal prices should include everything. Dumping fees and labour. It is a good idea to call and ask for clarification of the total disposal rates.
