Does the city of Vancouver pick up furniture?

The short answer is that it doesn’t. This is why the private junk removal business is operational in Vancouver. I am not sure why the city did stop offering this services, long time ago, but I could speculate. I am guessing that they wanted to specialize their dump trucks, and if they do that, they have to have a standardized bins. This way, the pick up is quick and it saves money and men-hours.

In cities like Burnaby, there is still a furniture pick up, but it is carried only ones each month. Many of my clients, come from Burnaby, which is not a surprise to me. In many cases, they need to get rid of a couch within few days, and the only option is to call my junk removal company.

Vancouver has not provide furniture removal services for a long time. This is why they opened the North Shore Transfer station. People could take their old couches, and other furniture there for free. However, a fee was introduced and it has been exponentially growing each year, to the point when it actually is better to hire a rubbish removal business, than doing it yourself.

If you have your own truck, then it still makes some sense to dispose of it yourself, if you don’t mind the long lines, nails and nasty smell while you are there. It makes no sense to do it yourself, if you have to rent a truck. By the time you are done with the dumping fees, rental costs and time spent, you are probably going to save $20, which is not worth it.

Sure you can also try to donate it or sell your furniture, but most will not be easy to push on other people. Try that, but give yourself some time. You will still need to hire a hauling company at the end of the day.
